Masters picks:
Gary Lemke (Head of Team Compleat)
Dustin Johnson: The World No 2 has not quite converted form into Majors, but still hits the ball miles, and if his A-game is locked and loaded is sure to be right there.
Justin Thomas: The weather forecast for the week is not great, but that could suit Thomas. He has high ball flight and his solid putting game will stand him in good stead.
Matt Wallace: Chatting to him poolside in Cape Town last year I told him I fancied his Masters chances. He putted well at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City, and Augusta requires a similar management approach to the greens. You can’t attack every pin.
Charley Hoffman: There’s a curse against the world No 1 at the Masters and also against the winner of the previous week’s event. But form counts a lot in this game, and Hoffman finished second in Texas last week. Ranked No 66, he’s my lurker.
Wade Pretorius (Digital Editor)
Rickie Fowler: One of my four picks to win this year (I called Patrick Reed last year, and Brooks Koepka at the US Open), and with a solid record at Augusta he’s set for another top run regardless of whether he matches orange with green on Sunday. Fowler’s putting continues to give him a chance at the biggest events, something he’ll rely heavily on again this week.
Louis Oosthuizen: Life, death and taxes. And Louis Oosthuizen finishing well at Majors. The South African has been in good form recently, even if there have been some warning signs. His play from tee to green was ropey at Valspar (runner-up) and he failed to hold on to fast starts at the Dell Match Play (top five). If he can put together all the elements and avoid the one bad round that has dogged him in Majors, then this could be his time.
Xander Schauffele: This one helps separate my team from the others. That’s not to say I’m not expecting big things from a former Rookie of the Year. His game is steady, he’s won this year, and his form, world ranking and age all trend nicely when comparing the stats of years gone by.
Charley Hoffman: Anyone say first round leader? Hoffman’s name often sits on the first page of the leaderboard, but making the cut is more important to my hopes of glory. Only concern is that Mr Lemke has also picked him… there’s no going back now.
Juandre Joubert (Social media manager and Golfchamps rookie)
Brooks Koepka: Two-time US Open winner is one to watch. His long game is just so good and he could put himself in a real position to win if he overpowers the par-5s this week.
Jordan Spieth: On a torrid run, yes, but he is en route to becoming a course specialist at Augusta.
Sergio Garcia: A former winner and someone who knows what it takes to put together a good round. His game is shaping up nicely and could just surprise this week.
Justin Harding: The South African has little to lose this week, and after such a great run over the past 18 months or so, he is bound to show his worth.
