Sergio Garcia tees off at the 2018 Portugal Masters this week looking for a glimpse of form before next week’s Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in Paris.
The Spaniard was one of four players picked onto the team as the biennial event pits Thomas Bjorn’s European side against Jim Furyk’s Americans as Team Europe attempt to wrestle back the trophy which was they relinquished at Hazeltine National two years ago.
The 2017 Masters champion has missed three cuts in his last five starts.
Of those set to tee it up in Paris, Garcia and Thorbjorn Olesen will play at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course hoping to make it the perfect warm-up, while Vice-Captain Padraig Harrington will also be in the field.
Lucas Bjerregaard will be aiming to become the first man to successfully defend the Portugal Masters when he tees it up this week in a field that includes three Major champions with Harrington joined by South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel and England’s Danny Willett.
Schwartzel, who finished inside the top 10 at the Omega European Masters two weeks ago, is one of 10 South Africans to watch this week.
The course at Dom Pedro Victoria was designed by the great Arnold Palmer in 2004.
