This week David Frost tied for second at the Insperity Invitational on the PGA Tour Champions. The 56-year-old carded a final-round 69 that included five birdies to finish on eight-under-par, four shots behind breakthrough winner Jesper Parnevik.
Frost has come second in his last two starts on the American Seniors Tour after a runner-up result at the Legends of Golf tournament a fortnight ago. He now holds eighth place in the Charles Schwab Cup standings and will take heart from his recent good form.
The 1999 SA Open Champion will be confident considering Parnevik was realistically not going to be caught and second was the best Frost could hope for.
Parnevik was the only player to break 70 in all three tournament rounds at Woodlands Country Club and the Swede took his maiden seniors title with little fuss.
He shot a Sunday 67 to finish the week on 12-under-par, four shots clear of Frost, Jeff Maggert, and Mike Goodes.
‘It feels fantastic actually,’’ Parnevik said. ‘I’m still in shock. When it’s been this long, you don’t even remember how it is.’
There was plenty of hype about John Daly making his senior debut earlier in the week, but the ‘Wild Thing’ failed to deliver and shared 17th place, 10 shots off the pace.
The upcoming Regions Tradition Tournament is the first major of the year and Frost will be chomping at the bit. The West Palm Beach resident won the event in 2013 and is currently enjoying a rich vein of form, which could propel him to another senior major title.
