South Africa’s Dylan Frittelli made a cracking start to the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin with a thumping 6&5 win over Tony Finau on Wednesday.
The players teed off in their opening round matchups, which pitted Frittelli against the dangerous American.
Frittelli capitalised from the start and went one up on the first hole already before providing early killer blows with birdies on the 4th, 5th and 6th holes to move four up before the turn.
Finau had no answer for the South African’s consistency and was struggling to make any sort of birdies to get himself back in contention.

Frittelli made another birdie on the 10th before sealing a big win with a par on the 13th hole, while Finau made bogey.
The crunching win even raised eyebrows around the Austin Country Club with not a lot of people expecting Finau to go down in such a big manner.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout made two birdies on the final two holes to tie his match with Joaquin Niemann after it looked certain that the South African would fall to defeat.
There were defeats, however, for Louis Oosthuizen (2&1 to Kevin Kisner) and Erik van Rooyen (6&4) to Daniel Berger.
WATCH: McIlroy’s problems worsen
World No 1 Dustin Johnson won his match over Adam Long (2 up) but there were surprising heavy defeats for Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau.
