Dylan Frittelli was not able to repeat his first-round efforts, but did enough to move into the weekend at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Playing as the only South African in the field this week, the former Texas University star dropped 18 places on Friday after a second round 69 saw him move to 4-under for the event.
With good scoring on offer, Stewart Cink fired a 62, while Matt Kuchar leads after a second 63. Frittelli managed just two birdies to offset his single bogey of the day.
Friday for Frittelli was a grind though, despite hitting 13 greens in regulation.
The cut came at -2, which meant the end of the road for the likes of Jordan Spieth, Paul Casey, Pat Perez and Zach Johnson.
At the top of the pile Kuchar is currently one shot clear of Andrew Putnam (65), and four clear of Stewart Cink (62) and Chez Reavie (65).
‘Just two great days. To shoot 7-under back to back is unexpected, but certainly awfully exciting,’ Kuchar said.
