Five of the nine South Africans who began the Lyoness Open will feature on the weekend after the cut was set at +2 on Friday.
The best-placed South African after 36 holes is Zander Lombard (READ ABOUT HIS ROUND HERE), who is four shots off the lead set by Chilean Felipe Aguilar.
Next best on -4 is Trevor Fisher Jnr, who added a second round 71 to Thursday’s 69. Fisher Jnr is lying in a share of ninth, but it could be much worse after his opening 39 which included a double bogey on the third. He responded with birdies on 10,11 and 12 and again on 15 and 16 before giving one shot back on 17.
Dylan Frittelli and Jbe Kruger are both in the top 20 after finishing -3 and -2 respectively at the halfway mark, while Haydn Porteous was the last South African to make the cut after a second round 74 left him at +1.
Keith Horne, Jake Roos and Jaco Ahlers joined Jaco Van Zyl as the South Africans who won’t be around this weekend.
Van Zyl’s absence will be the most disappointing after he went from a share of second on Thursday to T81 after his second round 81.
He was just one shot over on his round after nine, but a double on 10 was followed by four drops shots in a row and then another double to fall dramatically out of the picture at the Diamond Country Club.
