Darren Fichardt shot 68 at Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof on Thursday to open his account on four-under-par at the BMW International Open.
The four-time European Tour winner started on the 10th and kept a clean card on his outward nine, which took 34 blows. He turned with confidence on his side and made three consecutive birdies from the first to the third.
‘I made a few crucial putts on my front nine and made some birdies, then I had a birdie going into the from side, which was my back nine. I’m very happy with 68,’ he said.
He made a lone bogey at the fifth and played regulation golf to the clubhouse, where he signed for 68 and a share of seventh.
Fichardt has been an ever-present figure on the European Tour, but this season he’s made five cuts in 10 starts. He took a break to recuperate and it’s done wonders for his game.
‘I had a couple weeks off working hard on the game. I been focusing on getting more feel into my game. I’ve was very mechanical in chasing the results, so I’m aiming to enjoy the game a bit more, and today that paid off,’ he said.
