There are plans in place to re-look at the way the Tour Championship – the finale of the FedExCup playoffs – plays out, according to reports.
The PGA Tour is planning to re-jig the scoring for the finale in a bid to avoid the situation that occurred last season when Justin Thomas won the $10-million bounty as the leading points-scorer on the FedExCup despite finishing second to Xander Schauffele at East Lake.
The other change sees the number of playoff events cut to three with this week’s Dell Technologies falling out of the picture.
The reported plan to find a single winner for the FedExCup is to rank the player starting the Tour Championship in first place to begin his tournament at -10 with the rest of the 30-man field then adjusted lower although specifics on that exact point are not yet clear.
The winner after four rounds then wins both the Tour Championship and the season-long FedExCup.
