Team McIlroy is going for the win

Family honour will be at stake as McIlroys, Rahms and Kaymers tee it up in Scotland for the first round of the prestigious Alfred Dunhill Links Team Championship.

The three father-and-son duos will be hoping they can create a unique family moment.

The McIlroys and Kaymers have played together in the event before, but this is world No 6 Rahm’s first appearance. His father Edorta played a massive role in encouraging his son to play golf.

All three start their challenge at Carnoustie.

‘It’s always a bonus to be able to play with my dad, to be able to walk around with him and to play these three great golf courses and spend some time with him. It means a lot to me,’ said Rory McIlroy.

Among the crowd-pleasing pairs are Hollywood superstar Justin Timberlake and Justin Rose, singer songwriter Ronan Keating and Lee Westwood and film great Bill Murray and D.A.Points.

Local fans will be looking at combinations such as Jaco Ahlers and Mark Boucher, Min Woo Lee and Jacques Kallis, Trevor Immelman and actor Greg Kinnear, Justin Harding and former pro footballer Vinnie Jones, Wilco Nienaber and Johann Rupert, Branden Grace and Jeremy Ord and Eddie Pepperell and AB de Villiers.

In-form Christiaan Bezuidenhout and big-hitting Schalk Burger Snr will be another pair tipped to challenge.

Ryan Fox and Shane Warne are always competitive while Bernd Wiesberger will join former England cricket star Kevin Pietersen this week.

Matthew Fitzpatrick and Luis Figo is another high-profile pair to watch. English Premier League fans will be keeping tabs on Luke Donald and Jamie Redknapp.

Record three-time winner Keiran McManus will be looking for another victory with a new partner in Lee Slattery, while his father JP McManus pairs up with Padraig Harrington again chasing a third victory.
