Louis Oosthuizen will tee up at the Perth International this week and is hoping to be spurred on by the wealth of South African fans that reside in the Australian city.
Defending champion Thorbjorn Olesen also weighed in on the spectators and atmosphere, which he enjoyed while claiming his second European Tour title with a victory in Perth.
‘I really like Australia in general, and especially Perth,’ said the Dane. ‘It’s just a shame that it’s so far from Europe, or else I would visit a lot more. The people are great, the food’s really good and I just like the vibe of the place. It’s nice and relaxed, Australians have a good attitude to life, and you can have fun. The course is also great, so I’m really looking forward to going back to defend my title.’
Lake Karrinyup Country Club is a renowned championship venue and Oosthuizen was inspired to play it after a chat with Ernie Els, who the Johnnie Walker Classic there in 2003.
‘I spoke to Ernie a bit about the course, because has won there before. He said great things about the place, so I’m looking forward to seeing it for myself. I hear there’s a big South African crowd there, and I’ve got friends who live there as well,’ said Compleat Golfer’s Playing Editor.
