Erik van Rooyen and Ernie Els continued their fine starts at the RBC Heritage challenge in Friday’s second round and will head into moving day both just four shots off the pace.
The pair opened their account on Thursday with a respective 66 and 67, with Van Rooyen going three under in his second round, while Els produced a solid four under at the Harbour Town Golf Links.
At eight under par, Van Rooyen and Els are T11 – alongside fellow South African Dylan Frittelli – and well poised to launch into a title challenge this weekend.

Van Rooyen, winner at the Scandinavian Invitational last year, was solid off the tee managing 10 out of 14 fairways and was able to up his greens in regulation figure to 13 from 18 greens. His round included four birdies and a bogey on the punitive layout in South Carolina.
Els, on the other hand, hit 10 out of 18 greens in regulation, which included a spectacular 180-yard approach shot on the par-four 10th hole, where he made birdie.
The South African trio will be looking to hunt down Webb Simpson, who is on 12 under par after the opening two rounds, as well as Bryson DeChambeau, who is a stroke behind the leader. DeChambeau’s good form continued on Friday after a brilliant round of 64, while Canadian Corey Connors is T2 with the American after his second-round 63.
