England now joins the likes of the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Austria and Namibia in opening golf courses for play. Even golf in Italy, one of the countries most impacted by the coronavirus, is now allowed. Several of South Africa’s neighbouring states are allowing golf despite the ongoing battle against the spread of Covid-19.

Initially, the English rules stated that only members of the same household could play together or in solo play but that has since been changed to allow one person outside of the household to join a group saying courses are open ‘but you should only use these alone, with members of your household, or with one other person from outside your household, while keeping two metres apart.’

    Clubhouses remain closed.

As expected golf must be played:

    – with flagsticks in and not touched
    – bunker rakes removed
    – ball washers and bins out of service
    – golfers must be two metres apart
    – players can travel to outdoor spaces irrespective of distance

South Africa join the likes of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in the list of countries that remain closed.
