Due to popular demand the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series, Golf RSA have added an additional tournament to the schedule which will be played at Durbanville Golf Club on 5 January 2018.

‘We added Durbanville because the BFM Junior Series is proving to be extremely popular, having sparked the imaginations of young golfers across the country,’ said Grant Hepburn, CEO of GolfRSA. ‘The eight tournaments played so far have witnessed thrilling golf, as well as opportunities for our juniors to hone their tournament craft and make new friends.’

The BFM Junior Series, open to boys and girls in the Under-13 and Under-19 divisions, launched at Royal Cape Golf Club in July 2017 and runs through to March 2018. Played at celebrated golf courses in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Gauteng, the tournaments have attracted bumper fields and some of the country’s best junior golfers including number 1 ranked Jayden Schaper (Bridge FM Junior Series winner at ERPM Golf Club), 3rd ranked Christo Lampbrecht Jnr and 6th ranked Deon Germishuys (already a two time winner in the Bridge FM Junior Series).

Managed by the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB), the series has seen golfers from SAGDB programmes seizing the opportunity to display their talents, with Hilmi Mallick and Cole Stevens both tying for the lead at their tournaments before losing electrifying play-offs at Strand and The Wanderers respectively.

‘We are only about half way through the first BFM Junior Series and it has already exceeded our expectations. So we are thrilled that GolfRSA has introduced an additional tournament to meet the demand to be part of this exciting project,’ said Paul Stewart, Executive Director at Bridge Fund Managers.

‘It is all about giving junior golfers opportunities, so it has been particularly rewarding to see the development golfers playing exceptional golf; demonstrating they need stand back for no-one.’

The big prize sees the top two golfers in the Under-19 division being flown to the USA to compete in the Junior North and South Championship at Pinehurst in 2018 – a prestigious event which has featured future Major winners including Jack Nicklaus.
