Charl Schwartzel carded six-under par for his second round at Pretoria Country Club on Friday to take sole second heading into the weekend of the Tshwane Open.
Thunderstorms forced the 2011 Masters champ to take a break midway through playing the 18th hole, but he duly waited and then made par to reach the weekend on five-under total.
Schwartzel came into the week ‘feeling really rested after the break’ and showed why he has 10 European Tour wins on Friday, going bogey-free on a day when the course played tough. Those Friday heroics put him two shots behind clubhouse leader Anthony Michael, who shot 69 before the weather delay.
Earlier in the day Michael had to grind out a round of 69 in the breeze to set the benchmark at seven-under par.
‘It was a bit tougher out there today, the greens were firmer and the breeze got up, so I’ll definitely take that 69,’ he said.
‘I made a few clutch putts, so that was steady. Club selection from the tee box was what got me today, so I’ll get focused for tomorrow. I want to stay in the moment, in the present,’ he added.
