A two-over-par 72 from Charl Schwartzel saw South African interest grow dim during round three of the Honda Classic at PGA National.

There weren’t many highlights from the round for Schwartzel, who endured a tough day from tee to green. The 2011 Masters champion, who banked a top 10 at the Puerto Rico Open last week, hit just 5 of 14 fairways in round three.
His play from there wasn’t much better as he found just 7 of the 18 greens in regulation.
His lone birdie of the day came at the last after getting up and down from the greenside bunker. That gain left him in a share of 29th place – a 17-place slide on moving day – with his tournament score on -1.
Unheralded Wyndham Clark holds 54-hole lead at -7, with legend Vijay Singh, K.H. Lee and Keith Mitchell all one-shot back.
Singh’s last PGA TOUR victory came in 2008, while his only win at The Honda Classic was in 1999 on a course that he couldn’t remember. And he arrived at PGA National a few days ago wondering if his game was still good enough for him to be competitive against the younger generation.
So far, he’s got to like what he’s seeing.
And he’ll have a shot on Sunday at making history.
Singh – who turned 56 on February 22 – has a chance to become the oldest winner ever on the PGA TOUR. His round of 5-under 65 put him a shot behind leader Clark and into the final pairing.
