Dean Burmester shot a final round 65 that lifted him 24 places on the WGC-Mexico leaderboard that brought with it a hefty financial bonus.
Burmester took home R985,029 for finishing in a tie for 30th and was jointly the top-performing South African this week.
He told Compleat Golfer at the start of the week, that he was looking forward to testing his game in one of the strongest fields in golf and if Sunday’s round was anything to go by, he will have gained some positive experience.
Already more than at home in European Tour elite events – he finished T4 at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship at the end of last year – the week in Mexico brought about a change with top PGA Tour players in attendance.
While he will rue the four doubles he made in his previous three rounds, Burmester will take heart from his final round, which began with two birdies in a row and ended with an eagle and three pars to close.
Final South African leaderboard:
T30 – Dean Burmester, Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace – R985,029
T48 – Charl Schwartzel – R792,338
