Dean Burmester was unlucky not to win the Dimension Data Pro-Am this weekend, but his second-place finish was enough to make him the 100th-best golfer in the world.
The 27-year-old won four tournaments on the Sunshine Tour last year and steadily climbed the rankings, but it was his performance at Fancourt this weekend that earned helped him to achieve a career goal.
The Bloemfontein local has not yet won on the European Tour, but he has ticked every box short of that achievement. At present he ranks seventh on the Sunshine Tour order of merit with a 10th-place finish at the SA Open and a fourth-place finish at the Tshwane Open.
He’s won six times on the Sunshine Tour, equaling the tally of David Frost and Simon Hobday, but is yet to break onto the international circuit.
At 100th in the world there seems to be little that will stop him finding success on foreign shores.
