Local bookmakers Bet.co.za have installed Tiger Woods as the player to beat at this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
Woods made great strides at the Valspar Championship last week before finishing one shot short of England’s Paul Casey, who needed just 21 putts on Sunday for his second victory on US soil.
The 14-time Major champion got the Innisbrook crowd excited and as a result, Bet.co.za too.
Woods, who has a massive eight victories at Bay Hill, last played at Arnie’s Place in 2013 and it was a successful last outing as he edged Justin Rose by two for the win.
His strong showing over the last two weeks added with his reputation and his penchant for winning at Bay Hill means he starts as 6.25/1 favourite to win – which will earn him his 80th PGA TOUR title and end a run of 1 687 days since his last win. Incidentally, it took the same amount of time for WGC-Mexico champion Phil Mickelson to win again after going through his own barren run.
Next best, from the bookies view, is 2016 winner Jason Day who is 12.75/1 to win with Rose rounding out the top three at 15.25/1.
