Christiaan Bezuidenhout finished as the top-performing South African, while Stephen Gallacher prevailed on a rollercoaster final round at the Hero Indian Open.
The challenging DLF Golf and Country Club layout was hit by strong wind that sent the leaders into a spiral. Julian Suri and Callum Shinkwin closed with 77 and 78 respectively.
Those rounds saw them fall from contention to allow Gallacher back into the winner’s circle.
The Scot birdied three of his last four holes to produce a stunning comeback and win his first European Tour title in five years as Suri dropped into a share of fourth alongside South Africa’s Bezuidenhout.
Bezuidenhout made six birdies and two bogeys in a 68 that handed him a third top ten in four events, and he finished three shots off the lead, one ahead of fellow South Africans George Coetzee and Erik van Rooyen, Spaniard Nacho Elvira and third round co-leader Shinkwin.
Coetzee will be left wondering what if.
Playing the final group on Saturday, he closed with two late bogeys to derail his chances. The wind gave him a chance on Sunday, however, but he struggled in his opening nine with three bogeys and a single birdie to end his bid.
