Two double bogeys in his final seven holes cost South Africa’s Branden Grace a place in the top 70 of the FedExCup standings.
After missing the cut at the first playoff event last week, Grace rebounded nicely following his opening 74 at the Dell Technologies Championship to get himself in the frame for a place in the BMW Championship field next week.
A Saturday 64 was followed by a 69 on Saturday as Grace entered the final round inside the projected top 70.
The 29-year-old South African was one under par for his round when he stood on the redesigned 12th tee. He was plus one for his round after finding the greenside bunker from the fairway and then struggled on the green.
He got back to level on the 15th hole with a birdie 3 as he rolled in a 15-foot putt to move him to a projected 73 in the standings with three holes to play.
Grace’s run would end before his final tee shot at TPC Boston as he carded another double after missing the fairway and three putting.
Just two South Africans remain in the playoffs as Charl Schwartzel finished T25 – the same as Grace’s final place – which saw him finish 43 in the standings and Louis Oosthuizen who finished T30 and is SA’s best-placed player with two events to play in 24th spot.
