Jaco Ahlers has already ticked off many boxes in a successful golfing career. He’s won four times on the Sunshine Tour and he’s played in the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
This week in Thailand he has the chance to achieve his next goal – winning a European event.
Ahlers shot 67 on Saturday at the King’s Cup and moved within one stroke of leader Shih-Chang Chan, who was nine-under-par total.
The $ 750,000 tournament is co-sanctioned by the Asian and European Tours, so a victory would secure playing privileges on both circuits until the end of 2017.
It would also round off the list of career achievements for Ahlers, who outclassed Branden Grace, George Coetzee, and Thomas Aiken to win the 2014 Cape Town Open.
Ahlers had a goal for his third round at Phoenix Gold Golf Club and achieved it.
‘I didn’t finish as good as I wanted to unfortunately, but I’m happy as I set a target of eight-under when I started and I met it,’ he said.
If he can do the same on Sunday there is every chance he will lift the trophy.
