Jaco Ahlers produced another good round at Phoenix Gold Golf Club in the form of a Friday 68 to share fourth place at five-under-par in the King’s Cup. The clubhouse leaders were Terry Pilkadaris and overnight leader Sattaya Supupramai, topped the leaderboard at seven-under-par after 36 holes.
Ahlers started his second round with a birdie on the 10th and made further red numbers at the 11th and 16th. He dropped shots at the 15th and 18th to turn in 34 strokes.
The 33-year-old had to wait until the fifth hole (his 14th of the day) to pick up another birdie, which he followed with another at the sixth. He dropped his third shot of the day at the seventh but regained the stroke at the eighth. He tapped in for bogey at the ninth for a total of five-under-par at the halfway mark in Thailand.
Other South Africans to have completed their second rounds are Dean Burmester (66), Jbe’ Kruger (71), Trevor Immelman (73), Shaun Norris (72) and Keith Horne (74).
With the cut line falling on one-over-par, only Ahlers (-5), Burmester (-1) and Kruger (+1) will be around for the weekend.
