An emotional Justin Thomas fought back the tears as he reflected on his excellent victory at the PLAYERS Championship in Florida this past Sunday.
Thomas produced a weekend spectacle for the final two rounds of the event, tieing the lowest final 36-hole score in the competition’s history.
The American signed off with rounds of 71,71,64,68 for a winning score of 14 under par and a one-shot victory over Lee Westwood.

‘It’s a lot harder when there were no fans here, that’s for sure,’ Thomas said at his media conference afterwards.
‘I’m so happy they are back and I am so happy to be a PLAYERS champion. I fought so hard today, I stayed really patient. Probably one of the best rounds of my life.
‘Tee to green, total control over the ball and was setting a lot of good putts, just wasn’t holing everything. I have seen some pretty crazy things on TV happen on this back nine, so I’m glad to be on the better side of it this year.’

In so doing, Thomas claimed his 14th PGA Tour title, becoming only the fourth player to ever win the PLAYERS, a WGC event, a Major and the FedEx Cup.
‘It means the world to have my name on the PLAYERS Championship trophy. It’s a tournament that I have always enjoyed coming to, one that I have aspired to win. To be a part of this history and have my picture up on that wall in the locker room for a year, is something that I’m very excited about,’ Thomas added.
The 27-year-old then got emotional when he was asked about his late grandfather’s part in his success after he passed away recently.
‘I wish I could talk to him, but I know he is watching,’ Thomas said with tears in his eyes.
