World No 1 Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa have been paired together for the start of the PLAYERS Championship on Thursday.
TPC Sawgrass is set to host a spectacular weekend of exciting golf, featuring the very best players in the world.
The featured groups promise to light up the entertainment with Johnson, DeChambeau and Morikawa headlining the biggest of them all.
DeChambeau is fresh off his win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week, while Morikawa sealed a fourth PGA Tour victory at the WGC-Workday Championship the week before. Added to the brilliance of Johnson, the three players will create a lot of excitement when they tee off on Thursday.
Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth are also expected to produce fireworks in their featured group pairing. Spieth, in particular, has been knocking on the door recently and is edging towards a breakthrough after a few years of bad form.
Rahm has enjoyed a steady yet consistent start to the year so far. The Spaniard secured three top-10 finishes in the five events he’s featured in leading up to the PLAYERS.
Another highly exciting featured group worth watching will be the matchup between Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Viktor Hovland. They are arguably three of the most exciting young talents on the PGA Tour with the same goal in mind: to become the next big thing in golf.
Rory McIlroy, Webb Simpson and Sergio Garcia will complete the fourth and final featured group, with a lot riding on their performances.
McIlroy said earlier this week that his best days are still ahead of him, following another final-round tumble at Bay Hill last week.
The Northern Irishman heads into the PLAYERS as the defending champion due the cancellation of last year’s edition. After 16 winless months, a victory this week will certainly feel like a massive breakthrough for McIlroy.
