Erik van Rooyen was the top-performing South African at the PGA Championship, ensuring a whopping payday as just reward for his week’s work.
Tough scoring conditions on the final day at Bethpage Black saw Van Rooyen miss out on booking a place at next year’s Masters.
A three-over par 73 to close was his highest score of the week (70-68-70-73) as he missed out the chance to bank an invite to Augusta, which was reserved for the top four and ties.
Van Rooyen did, however, finish inside the top 10 to earn a cheque worth $264 395 or R3.8-million.
Justin Harding’s final-round 72 saw him finish in T54, which saw him add R330 000 to his season’s earnings, with the last South African after 72 holes, Louis Oosthuizen, earning R305 000.
Oosthuizen would like to forget Sunday after his 79 saw him drop 38 places as he finished tied for 60th.
Branden Grace, Dylan Frittelli, Shaun Norris, Brandon Stone and Richard Sterne all missed the cut. They all received a nominal cheque of $3 100.
