This Proteas hockey player doesn’t get on to the golf course enough but she plays to a decent level when she does.
How long have you been playing golf on a social level?
I started playing golf just before the Covid-19 outbreak, so probably about three-and-a-half years.
How often do you play?
I only really play in the [hockey] off-season, as I try to focus on my hockey and I do not like to ‘mix my swings’ between the different sports too much.
Can you name a few of your favourite courses?
I have not played many, but Kingswood and Pezula on the Garden Route were beautiful with some unreal scenery, and I have also been fortunate enough to play Steenberg, which was an absolute treat! I am lucky enough that I have a great local course in Durbanville Golf Club, so most of my social golfing happens there.
Any specific courses you’d still like to play in South Africa?
My husband is an avid golfer, so we would still love to play most of the top golf courses across the country. A few that come to mind are Arabella, Pearl Valley, Fancourt, Gary Player Country Club, and so many more.
Top three international courses you’d like to play?
It has to be: the Old Course at St Andrews, Augusta National Golf Club and Pebble Beach Golf Links.
What is your current handicap?
I haven’t had an official handicap this year, but I roughly play off a 12-15.
What brand of clubs do you use?
I currently play with a full set of Cobra F-Maxes, excluding my putter which is an Odyssey Putter.
Favourite club in the bag and why?
It has to be the driver, as it’s a great feeling when you manage to get a good one down the fairway. It definitely keeps you coming back for more.
Do you watch any golf on TV?
I am not a massive follower of golf on TV. However, because my father and husband are devoted golf followers, I do end up having to watch a lot [laughs].
Who is your favourite player?
It has to be Scottie Scheffler. I like that he is always true to himself, down to earth and humble, despite being the No 1 golfer in the world, he keeps his demeanour towards the game and fans the same.
Any specific players you’d like to play with one day?
It would probably also be Scottie but I know my husband is the biggest Rory McIlroy fan in the world so maybe it would be Rory if my husband could tag along. Also, it would be an absolute honour to be able to play with the great Tiger Woods, for obvious reasons.
