Oosthuizen is well placed through 36 holes

Louis Oosthuizen bogeyed the 18th hole to finish two-over par for his second round but remains firmly in the hunt at The Honda Classic.

Oosthuizen couldn’t replicate Thursday’s magic on the final hole – he holed out from the bunker for birdie – to drop two behind leaders Jamie Lovemark and Luke List.

For the second day in a row, the South African started slowly after making the turn two-over before finding some red numbers.

A birdie at the par-four 12th – he found the centre of the fairway on the dogleg before dialing in his iron to just over 22 feet – was followed by another at the 14th, but this time he just needed a two-footer for the birdie.

A bogey at the next followed when he failed to get up-and-down before giving the second of his back nine gains away on the last, as he became another casualty of the infamous Bear Trap.

Oosthuizen will head into Saturday full of confidence, especially with his driver in such good form – he found just a shade under 80% of the fairways in regulation in round two.

One stroke ahead of the top-ranked South African is veteran PGA Tour campaigner Rory Sabbatini, who matched his opening 69 with another on Friday.

Dylan Frittelli is doing his Masters qualification hopes no damage this week on his first start on the US tour this year. After playing the Bear Trap in -1, the two-time European Tour winner is T39 and ready to work his way up the leaderboard for further enhancement on his rankings points.
