Louis Oosthuizen will become the first Major winner to tee it up in the new era of the 2017 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at The Heritage Golf Club at Heritage Resorts this November.

The winner of the 2010 Open at St Andrews has confirmed his place in the field for the 30 November to 3 December tournament, which is tri-sanctioned between the Sunshine Tour, European Tour and Asian Tour.

Oosthuizen is also co-designing the second golf course at Heritage Resorts in partnership with renowned golf course architect Peter Matkovich, who designed the award-winning Heritage Golf Club and which was voted the Best Golf Course in the Indian Ocean at the World Golf Awards of 2014, 2015 and 2016.

For Oosthuizen, there is a certain sense of destiny to this year’s €1-million AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

‘My first professional victory came on a Peter Matkovich golf course,’ he said.

‘My passion for playing golf has now led me to explore my passion for golf design and I am thrilled to be co-designing this incredible second golf course at Heritage Resorts with Peter Matkovich. I am really looking forward to working on the luxurious land of Bel Ombre and to creating a golf course which perfectly balances the challenge of a championship layout with the element of fun that needs to be incorporated into any golf course.’

Once ranked as high as fourth in the world, Oosthuizen has won on all three of the co-sanctioning tours and will feature prominently in the new expanded field of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, which this year has grown to 156 golfers from over 30 countries.
