Louis Oosthuizen achieved the longest birdie streak in a single round in LIV Golf’s young history, at LIV Golf Tucson on Friday.
Through his first 12 holes, Oosthuizen had posted 11 pars and one bogey. Suddenly, everything changed and the South African finished his round of 66 with six consecutive birdies.
“I wanted to try and keep going, really,” said Oosthuizen, who’s managing an injury issue to his left elbow. “I had to make a bogey to realise that I need to pull my finger a little bit out.”
Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace won the first two events in the 2002 Invitational Series season. If Oosthuizen can build on his six-birdie streak this weekend, he could be the third South African to claim an individual title.
“I just gave myself great opportunities coming in, and you get those runs,” said Oosthuizen, who is just one shot behind the leader, Australian Marc Leishman. “I can’t remember when last I had six in a row. It must be years ago.”
