When Phil Mickelson announced last month that his brother, Tim, was stepping away from caddying it begged the question as to who the six-time Major champion would get next to carry his bag around.
We didn’t have to wait long for that answer as Mickelson showed up for LIV Golf Miami this week with new caddie Jon Yarbrough for what will be Mickelson’s last start before next week’s Masters.
Mickelson announced Tim’s retirement last month after seven years together where they forged a successful alliance, capturing victory in three tournaments: the 2018 WGC-Mexico Championship, the 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and most notably, the 2021 PGA Championship, a historic win that marked Phil’s sixth and last Major title.
Yarbough, a 20-year veteran, had been on the bag for PGA Tour player Scott Stallings for more than a decade but Golfweek reported Mickelson offered Yarbough “incredible” guaranteed money that helped sway him.
An established player on the PGA Tour for over a decade, Stallings qualified for the Tour Championship in 2022. However, in 2024, he has made just three cuts in nine starts and only just ended in the top 125 last year.
Yarbough has an impressive list of former players, most notably 2019 US Open champ Gary Woodland, 2011 Fedex Cup Champion Bill Haas and Smylie Kaufman as well as LPGA players Kelly Robbins, Morgan Pressel and Suzann Pettersen.
