Dean Burmester believes the qualification criteria for Majors will have to be changed to allow LIV golfers to compete.
Players ranked in the top 50 on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) qualify for The Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and The Open Championship.
However, LIV golfers do not get OWGR points from LIV tournaments, which has seen their rankings plummet.
“I’m going to be probably playing fewer Majors because of LIV,” said Burmester, who is currently ranked 119th, in an interview with News24.
“But you never know if they decide to start giving us some opportunities, and I’ll give myself every chance to try and be there on Sunday and see if I have the mettle to win one of these things.
“I think it’s important [for the eligibility criteria to change]. There are so many great golfers. You look at a guy like Joaquin Niemann – he got an invitation to The Masters. He’s been playing incredible golf on our circuit.
“You have other guys whose Major eligibility is running out, guys like Dustin Johnson and Brooks [Koepka]. When their Major eligibility runs out, they will have to make a decision.
“I think it [changes to eligibility criteria] will happen.”
Burmester said golf needed LIV players to be at the Majors.
“It’s important for sure to get into those tournaments and see if we can compete and win.
“For the game of golf in general, it’s important because we all know the friction in golf at the moment is not great, but it’s in the process of coming closer together.
“The more the LIV, PGA Tour, and European guys can play together, the better. You get the best golfers in the fields; I don’t see a downside to that.”
