South African Zander Lombard shot a three-under par 67 to take the outright lead at the Irish Open after Friday’s second round, writes JOHN GOLIATH.
Lombard followed up his six-under 64 in the opening round at Lanhinch Golf Club with five birdies and two bogeys to move up to nine-under par. He takes a one-shot lead into the weekend. England’s Eddie Pepperell is in solo second position at eight under, while three other players are at seven under par.
Brandon Stone finished round two with another 67 to move to six-under par. The defending Scottish Open Champion made brilliant eagle two at the par-four 9th, but mixed in three dropped shots to go with his four birdies.
Four other South Africans made the cut, which ended up being at one under par. George Coetzee followed up his erratic level-par 70 in the first round, which included triple-bogey seven at the 7th and four straight birdies on the back nine, with a three-under round.
Former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen got back on track with a 67 following an opening round 71. He is two under going into moving day, while Jacques Kruyswijk and Richard Sterne made the cut on the number and finished the second round on one under par.
Justin Harding and Louis de Jager finished the second round on level par and missed the cut, along with nine other South African golfers.
