The last playing of the MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius was completed in December 2019. Since then, the world as we know it has changed.
On Friday, the much-awaited return of the tournament commences in its normal December slot. The event did take place in March 2022 but was cancelled on the second day due to incessant rain.
It is therefore with much anticipation organisers and hosts of the tournament Constance Belle Mare Plage await the first tee shot at 8am on Friday morning.
The stellar field is riddled with big names including Tom Lehman, Thomas Bjorn, Paul McGinley, Michael Campbell and the current Order of Merit leader James Kingston.
Other notables include last week’s winner Joakim Haeggman, who took home the spoils at the penultimate tournament of the season at the MCB Tour Championship in Seychelles, defending champion Jarmo Sandelin, who seems to have a particular affinity for the course, and new kid on the block Adilson Da Silva whose accuracy off the tee, and stellar short game, may make for a surprise debut.
As always, the Legend Course is in impeccable condition hot off its latest accolade of being rated as the best course in the Indian Ocean by the World Golf Awards. The 6,018m par 72 Hugh Baiocchi design always offers testy conditions with its tight routing through heavy bush and tidal mangroves and the ever-present coastal breeze leaving players struggling to calculate yardages.
It promises to be an exciting three days of golf with the idyllic azure Indian Ocean of Constance Belle Mare Plage as a backdrop.
