I usually test a product for a month or two before writing a review about it, but I’ve had the Piretti Cortino 2 putter for a much longer time and it is here to stay.
Putters are quite a personal thing; while the need to be custom-fitted for the correct length, lie angle and weight distribution to suit your putting stroke remains, people’s choice really comes down to the look and feel of the flatstick. It is, after all, just you looking down at the putter behind the ball that matters, and this look needs to give you the confidence that you can roll the ball into the cup as often as possible.
Not only do Piretti putters give you a great look from all sides (and many compliments from your playing partners), but these handcrafted premium milled clubs also offer a range of technical differences to most other putters, and it’s these distinctions that have made the brand a winner in my view.
Firstly, the putter is slightly heavier than normal, making it easier to stroke the ball with confidence and ensuring a consistent roll on any surface. Piretti putters have less loft than other putters (2.5 degrees, to be exact), which helps to limit ball-skid just after impact. The deep milling on the face improves feel and gets the ball rolling forward more quickly. All of these features combine with the totally milled clubhead (as opposed to putters that are generally cast), giving Piretti putters one of the best feels around. Much like many of the other premium putter brands on the market, Piretti putters don’t come cheap: expect to pay more than R3 000 for one of these fine flatsticks. However, when you consider that, on average, you use your putter more than 30 times in a round and the rest of your clubs maybe 12 to 14 times, it’s clear your putter should be the club you trust the most and, therefore, the one in which you should invest the most money.
