Adams Golf attached special importance to adaptability in the design of its ‘Red’ hybrid, launching in South Africa this week.
Unlike most hybrids, which probably remind you more of fairway woods than long irons, the Adams Red looks and feels more like an iron than a wood.
Adams has predictably retained its upside-down head design, lowering the centre of gravity to help one launch the ball more easily, but has reduced the head size to merely 95cc, allowing one to (successfully) hit from a more extensive range of lies.
The most significant aspect of the design is the 25-gram silver weight that can be moved to any of three positions on the sole of the club. Move the weight to the toe, and you will create fade bias, allowing you to attack the ball with less fear about the ball going left. Move the weight to the heel, and you won’t have to worry as much about the ball going right.
For the high handicapper, this is – owing to its compact head – probably not the ideal hybrid. But for the better player who’s not so comfortable with a long iron in hand, this is definitely a club worth trying out.
The Adams Red hybrid will be available at all the leading retailers from Thursday, at a recommended price of R2 599.
