Stock your bag with a collection of what was popular among manufacturers over the past year.
Next time you’re teeing it up with new faces in a fourball – don’t you just love how golf can throw virtual strangers together for a few hours at a time? – try to stop yourself from doing what has become second nature. You simply won’t be able to resist.
It’s the action of looking at the clubs in someone else’s golf bag. You probably even stretch out your hand and ask for a ‘feel’ of their driver, give it a few swings, and say, ‘nice’. That’s even before a ball has been hit off the 1st tee. And so it goes through a round. Feeling out someone’s putter, their irons. Sometimes even checking the pockets and compartments on their golf bag.
That’s one of the beauties of someone else’s bag. Even the pros are genuinely interested in seeing what their fellow pro has in their bag, feeling the size of the grip on the putter, looking at the lofts on the wedges. But, at our level, while we proclaim to be ‘faithful’ to one brand, the truth is we’re not sponsored to be that faithful. Often you’ll see a mix and match; a Titleist golf bag for instance with Wilson Staff irons, a Srixon hybrid and Odyssey putter.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong, or illegal, with having more than one brand in your bag. This month, as we head towards the end of the year, we asked manufacturers what were most popular products from their brands over the course of 2021.
You can find them in the December 2021 issue of Compleat Golfer magazine.
