XR 16 AND XR PRO 16 DRIVER
Callaway Golf Company has officially announced its new line of XR 16 woods, which includes the XR 16 Driver, XR Pro 16 Driver, XR 16 Fairway Wood and XR Pro 16 Fairway Wood.
For the XR 16 Driver, Callaway Research & Development worked with aerodynamics experts at Boeing to redefine what is possible with clubhead speed and aerodynamics. Callaway engineered its most forgiving head shape ever and the specialists at Boeing made it fast with a re-engineered Speed Step.
In addition to delivering our most forgiving shape, a high speed head, and low drag in the crown, the XR 16 Driver also features a next generation R*MOTO Face that is lighter and up to 19 percent thinner. The XR 16 Driver is available in 9°, 10.5° and 13.5° HT lofts. The XR Pro 16 Driver will be available in 9° and 10.5° lofts.
Dr. Alan Hocknell, Head of Research and Development, Callaway Golf, said: “With the XR 16 project we set ourselves the task of producing an aerodynamically superior driver that challenged convention. With the assistance of Boeing’s top engineers on our aerodynamic research we were able to bring together all the key elements of performance to generate maximum distance without a loss of forgiveness in the head. As a result we have managed to deliver a head design which is extraordinarily fast, but also very forgiving.”
The XR 16 Fairway Wood builds on the category-defining Face Cup Technology and features a design that is bigger, hotter, and more forgiving with our lightest crown for even more ball speed and distance. The XR 16 Fairway Wood will be available in a 3+, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9 and 11 Wood. The XR Pro 16 Fairway Wood will be available in 14°, 16° and 18° lofts.
XR OS IRONS AND HYBRIDS
Callaway Golf has revealed an extension to the popular XR family, with the introduction of new XR OS Irons and Hybrids. To complement its existing XR Iron range, Callaway has developed a new, oversize design featuring second generation 360 Face Cup technology to deliver even greater ball speeds across the clubface, allowing golfers to hit shots further.
In addition, a 28% wider sole, compared to the standard XR model, provides enhanced turf-interaction and a lower centre of gravity, making XR OS Irons easier to launch, whilst still promoting maximum distance.
Dr. Alan Hocknell, Head of Research and Development at Callaway Golf, said: ‘Game improvers represent the widest demographic of golfers but we know one size does not fit all. With XR OS, we wanted to use the ball speed advantages of our second generation iron Cup Face in a way that helps to gain carry distance through the air.’
Featuring a multi-piece construction, the XR OS Irons are manufactured using a dual heat treatment to optimise ball speed without compromising on feel. A harder heat treatment on the face increases ball speed, while a soft heat treatment is used across the body to enhance feel.
Callaway has also developed a Women’s range of XR OS Irons, featuring lighter head weights with higher lofts and flatter lie angles, which have been designed to suit female golfers.
As an alternative for golfers looking for even greater forgiveness at the top end of the bag, Callaway has also launched the new XR OS Hybrids, which feature the company’s enhanced Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup, delivering the hottest ball speeds, even on off-centre strikes.
With a centre of gravity 46% lower than in the X2 Hot Hybrids, the new models feature a completely re-designed head shape, while a re-engineered Internal Standing Wave refines how Callaway increases MOI, offering even greater forgiveness and higher ball flights.
With higher lofts, more offset and a super-deep centre of gravity, compared with the standard model, the XR OS Hybrids are even more forgiving, making it supremely easy for mid to high handicap golfers to launch the ball from all conditions.
