EOGA Golf Academy was started at Steenberg Golf Club nearly 10 years ago. Since then it has grown into Cape Town’s premier Golf Academy with a team of passionate PGA qualified professionals led by Director of Instruction, Quintin van der Berg and Managing Director, Etienne Olivier. Quintin earned himself a solid reputation internationally when teaching at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy at La Cala Resort on the Costa Del Sol, Spain. European Pro Tour golfer, Peter Appleyard credited Quintin with helping him qualify for the Open Championship by beating 3500 golfers at Royal Birkdale. He described the lessons with Quintin as a “fantastic experience”. “I found Quintin to be a very, very good coach. He is really up to date with the latest technological innovations and can provide expert analysis of the technical information. He used the 3D TaylorMade Performance Lab to identify something in my swing that was affecting my game. I am delighted with the progress…” James Petts, who coaches European Tour player Søren Hansen, recommended Quintin as one of the best teachers in Europe.
Current clients include European Tour Professionals, Garth Mulroy and Trevor Fisher Jnr, a 9 times winner of the Sunshine Tour. Last year Trevor won the African Cup, a co-sanctioned European / Sunshine Tour event. Other Sunshine Tour clients include Andrew Georgiou and Matthew Kent, SA top amateur for 2 consecutive years, is now training to get onto the Sunshine Tour. EOGA also coaches School Golf teams/squads ie Reddam and Bishops and many club champions have passed through the academy.
Their coaching programmes and teaching techniques are of highest international standard, attracting golfers from Europe and all over Africa. The academy offers SNAG (Starting New at Golf) to kiddies as young as 4 years of age and is the only certified 5SK (5 Simple Keys) facility in Africa.
This year EOGA is working closely with the WPGU to provide blue prints for talented young golfers and IPT Players who have been selected for specialized coaching to maximize their golfing potential. The assessments are done at Etienne Olivier’s concept – the GolfLAB, South Africa’s only indoor golf facility of it’s kind. The GolfLAB provides state-of-the-art technology like TaylorMade’s MAT-T System which provides cutting-edge 3-Dimensional imagery, used to measure all pertinent swing characteristics; the SAM Puttlab which gives golfers a scientifically precise feedback on all relevant parameters of their putting stroke; a FocusBand (a first for South Africa) used to train the brain to move from the left side to the right which enables the golfer to think faster, to act intuitively and without emotions like fear. Gap Testing, Golf fitness, accurate club and ball fitting and club repair service is also offered. The facility also boasts a full time Senior PGA golf coach, Darryn Pitout, who trained under Etienne Olivier and Quintin van der Berg at EOGA before transferring to the GolfLAB; and 5 hitting bays, each with it’s own projector and self-help software, allowing the golfer to either practice or play on one of the many international courses. The GolfLAB is known as the ultimate game improvement centre.
EOGA has now further demonstrated their commitment to improving golf performance by announcing the launch of their newest branch at Milnerton Golf Club.
The new site, situated just ten minutes from Cape Town on the Milnerton Links, offers not only traditional links golf with large open fairways and a fantastic short game and practice area.
