Jbe’ Kruger made the cut on the number at the Maybank Championship Malaysia with a flawless 67 at Royal Selangor Golf Club on Friday.
The 2012 Avantha Masters winner from Bloemfontein began the day with work to do, but added three birdies before the turn to give himself a chance at playing the weekend.
He crucially kept bogeys off the card on the back stretch and added a final birdie at the 17th to reach the weekend tied for 57th place.
Compleat Golfer’s Playing Editor Louis Oosthuizen carded one-under-par 71 to rise into a share of 12th at the halfway mark of the $3-million tournament.
The 2010 Open Champion won the Malaysian Championship in 2012 and looked set to contend yet again. His Friday round incorporated bogeys at the seventh and 11th, but he made amends with birdies at the 12th, 13th, and 17th to make the clubhouse on five-under-par total.
Leading the way was Australia’s Nathan Holman, who backed up his first round of 64 with a cool 65 on Friday to pull clear of the field.
Thriston Lawrence and Keith Horne were tied for 38th place on two-under-par after 36 holes, followed by Kruger in a share of 57th.
