Paula Reto shot 74 in the first round of the Women’s Olympic Golf Tournament on Wednesday, but there is not cut and she has three rounds to remedy the situation.
The LPGA member closed out the first round on three over par and shared 43rd place, nine strokes behind leader Ariya Jutanugarn.
‘Actually my expectation, of course I want to go medal, but on top of it, I want to have fun,’ Jutanugarn said. ‘I really want to enjoy every round of golf, that’s all I want this week.’
India’s Aditi Ashok, along with Korea’s Inbee Park and Seiyoung Kim, shared second on five under par.
Reto regularly competes against the world’s best and knows what to do in the coming rounds. She’ll be confident that a medal is still within her grasp.
Fellow South African Ashleigh Simon opened with a four over par 75 to share 49th place. The Ladies European Tour member needs to improve her position before playing the weekend.
