Branden Grace shot 66 at Baltusrol Golf Club in the third round of the PGA Championship, despite weather delays forcing a suspension in play. He returned to the New Jersey course on Sunday and birdied the 18th for a move to six-under-par for the tournament.
The leaders were yet to make the turn when Grace reached the clubhouse in a share of sixth, which meant the South African did not know his position on the scoreboard ahead of the final round.
His six-under-par total was enough to share sixth place early into proceedings, but the 7,400 yards course has been softened by the heavy rains that fell overnight.
Jason Day, Jimmy Walker, and Robert Streb were all tied for the lead on eight-under-par, one shot clear of Henrik Stenson and Emiliano Grillo. All five players had completed less than nine holes in their third round.
Grace, meanwhile, has the awkward job of waiting to see what happens. He’ll be keen to see how the course plays, and hopefully continue his charge towards the Wanamaker Trophy.
Charl Schwartzel also carded 66 for his third round and rose into a share of 32nd place. He was joined by Louis Oosthuizen, who shot a level-par 70 to close out 54 holes on two-under-par for the tournament.
The fourth round began after the leaders teed off and Ernie Els was level-par through one hole and tied for 57th place. George Coetzee was yet to begin his final round.
