James Kingston carded a second-round 72 on Friday afternoon at Carnoustie Golf Links to be in a share of 57th place after 36 holes at the Senior Open Championship.
The 50-year-old made his senior major debut on Thursday and struggled to three-over-par 75, but hit back on Friday.
He started the second round with five straight pars before making birdie at the sixth and bogey at the seventh. The former SA Open champ made the turn at level-par, picked up a birdie at the 14th, then dropped a shot at the 16th to sign for 72.
Kingston was three-over-par for the tournament, but safely made the cut. His playing partner, Kohki Idoki, fired a second-round 67 to reach seven-under-par for the tournament. He was one shot clear of a chasing pack that included Jesper Parnevik and Peter Fowler.
Chris Williams missed the cut after carding 76 in the overcast conditions of Scotland on Friday.
