Ernie Els carded a four-under-par 66 in the first round of the Senior Open Championship at the Kings Course at Gleneagles Hotel on Thursday.
The 52-year-old South African is two shots behind the co-leaders, Steven Ames and Glen Day.
Els followed pars through the opening nine holes with a birdie on the 10th, an eagle-two on the 14th and a birdie on 18.
David Frost’s three-under 67 gave him a share of 14th, Retief Goosen and James Kingston each carded level-par 70 (T44), while Chris Williams had a three-over 73 (T87).
