Henrik Stenson came home in 32 shots as he carded a superb six-under-par 65 for second on his own at The Open on Friday at Royal Troon Golf Club.
The Swede collected four birdies on his outward loop before dropping a shot at the ninth. After making the turn, he sunk birdies at the 10th, 13th and 16th to climb to nine-under-par for the tournament and cut Phil Mickelson’s lead to just a single shot.
This is a familiar scene, with Stenson having been runner-up to Mickelson at Muirfield when the American triumphed at the 2013 Open. Stenson will hope to push on for a top major finish, having withdrawn from the US Open a few weeks back.
