Justin Walters shot one of the rounds of the day with a seven-under-par 65, to move into contention after the third round of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
The 35-year-old South African started off with a birdie at his opening hole before adding another two on his flawless outward loop. The Johannesburg-born golfer started his back nine with three straight pars before picking up another birdie. He ended his rounds with a hot streak, sinking birdies in three of the last four holes to climb into a share of fourth place at nine-under-par, three shots behind leader Alexander Noren. The Saturday round will give Walters a lot of confidence, having missed 10 cuts in a row before sharing 45th place at the Open de France last week.
Branden Grace endured a tough day as despite an eagle to kick-start his round at the third, he would go on to make three bogeys and a double bogey to sign for a 74 and end up at four-under-par alongside countryman Richard Sterne.
Noren fired a composed 68 which ended with birdies at the 17th and 18th to take the lead heading into the final round. In blustery and rainy conditions, where there were several lead changes, it was the Swede who was able to carve out a two-shot lead over a fast finishing Tyrrell Hatton and Italian Matteo Manassero, going into Sunday.
