21-year-old Garrick Higgo won his second European Tour title on Sunday when he cruised a spectacular victory at the inaugural Gran Canaria Lopesan Open.
Higgo maintained his focus and rhythm throughout the final round to keep his lead secure and safe, despite a late push by German Maximilian Kieffer.
The South African capitalised on another quick start – making a birdie and an eagle within the first four holes of his round.
Another birdie on the ninth was followed by great composure down the stretch as he came home with three more birdies – the last of which fell on the 18th hole to round off a bogey-free final round.
Gusty winds late in the day didn’t halt Higgo’s progress and determination as he signed off with a round of 63 and a winning score of 25 under par for the week.
It was enough to see Higgo finish three strokes clear of Kieffer, who waited in the clubhouse on 22 under as Higgo made his way onto the final green.
Higgo also ended the week with the No 1 ranking in driving distance – allocating an average of 339.5 yards at the Meloneras Golf Club.
Justin Harding managed to secure a T15 finish on Sunday as he signed off on 15 under par for the week. Dean Burmester settled in T38, Zander Lombard T45, Justin Walters T52 and Louis de Jager T71.
