Ian Poulter has praised the PGA Tour’s efforts to accommodate a safe playing environment for its players, despite recent concerns after a number of players withdrew from the Travelers Championship.
Both Brooks Koepka and Graeme McDowell’s caddies tested positive for coronavirus upon their arrival in Connecticut, after which the two players announced their withdrawal from the event on Wednesday. Last week’s winner at the RBC Heritage, Webb Simpson, will also not feature at the Travelers Championship after a family member contracted the virus.

Poulter, though, feels that despite the disquiet among various stakeholders over the well-being of the PGA Tour events, the body should rather be credited for the work it has done so far.
‘I think the Tour has done an amazing job. I feel that the [bio-] bubble in itself has been pretty good. Now we’ve got a couple of cases, which are inevitable. When you look into the permutations of flying and travelling and social distancing as well as we possibly can – so what is seven cases out of 2,757 tests? Is that success?’ queried Poulter on an Instagram video.
‘What would be a successful test rate? Is it zero? Nobody can honestly in their wildest dreams imagine that nobody would test positive. So I think we need to speak up about it.’
