South Africa’s number one amateur Dylan Naidoo stands eighteen holes away from the biggest victory in his career. The 17-year-old fired a third round of six-under-par 65 at Chukyo Golf Club on Thursday to top the leaderboard at the 2016 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.
The Modderfontein member’s third round opened up a five-shot lead on 14-under-par in the boys individual competition. He’s shot all three rounds in the 60’s on the Ishino course, and the only other player to do the same was Kousuke Hamamoto of Thailand, who was sole second on nine-under-par.
Naidoo, Hermanus Loubser, Marco Steyn, and Dylan Mostert were third in the team competition on a cumulative score of 16-under-par, two shots behind second-placed Thailand.
The United States led the team competition by 11 strokes and were unlikely to be caught, but a good final round performance would give the SA youngsters a crack at second place.
Naidoo, a winner on the Big Easy Tour this season, has led from the front this week. One final hurdle stands between him and international renown.
