The 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel returns to competitive action this week at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, a site of his four victories.
FROM THE MAG: Charl Schwartzel’s next chapter
No player has won the title at Leopard Creek more than Schwartzel, who makes his playing return after battling a wrist injury for most of the year.
The 2004, 2012, 2013 and 2015 champion now returns to one of his favourite places in the world.
Before his break that allowed him to recover fully, he was not playing particularly well – but that was no surprise given the pain his wrist was causing him.
It is difficult to imagine that there is a player who thrives more on the challenge and the ambience offered by Leopard Creek, and, given Schwartzel’s famed attention to detail, it would be very surprising should he not produce some passages of brilliant play.
He starts the week in 250th in the Official World Golf Ranking, down from his 2019 starting point of 79th. The hard work starts now but at a venue where he has only good memories.
