Ernie Els is among the South African survivors at Royal Portrush with a total of six Saffas moving on to the weekend and five heading home.
Who’s in:
Justin Harding -6
Put himself in contention for a maiden Major victory after a magnificent second round at The Open at Royal Portrush on Friday. Harding shot a six-under 65 to leave him two shots behind clubhouse leaders JB Holmes and Tommy Fleetwood.
Dylan Frittelli – 5
Three shots dropped in his final two holes took the sting out of a job very well done for Frittelli on Friday. He’s three back.
Erik van Rooyen -4
Also made hay while the sun was shining at Royal Portrush to move up the leaderboard. The young South African, who briefly led the 2018 Open at Carnoustie, followed up his 70 in the first round with a bogey-free three-under 68 on Friday to go into the weekend at four under par.
Ernie Els -2
Just one bogey en route to a second-round 69. Another great showing by the Big Easy.
Branden Grace -1
Two bogeys over his last five holes took some of the gloss off a good display.
Louis Oosthuizen E
Birdied five and six but struggled with some aspects of his game. A birdie to close helped the cause after dropping three shots late on.
